final thoughts on the book

May 17, 2007

My thoughts on this book is that i thought that is was a pretty boring book. There was a couple of good parts in the book but most of it was not interesting to me. There was a lot of racism in this book which made the book some what interesting.”i wish i was the governor of alabama for one day, i’d let Tom Robinson go so quick the missionary society woulden’t have time to catch its breath” this quote to me stricks me because they think that tom robinson is so inocient. Another quote that got my attention was “didn’t they try to stop him?” this quote makes me think of the bad killing that tom got and i think that that was a little messed up because he was shot 17 times. Another quote was “what was one negro, more or less, among two hundred of em?” this makes me think of how much racism is in the book. The last quote is “Atticus leaned against the refrigerator, pushed up his glasses, and rubbed his eye.” I think that this is kind of sad because Atticus really wanted Tom Robinson to live happly ever after. But he didnt.

different ending

May 15, 2007

Tom took off running for the fence the guards starting to yell and fire the their rifles into the air, but tom did not stop funning. Next thing you know sirens are going off and the jail is going into lockdown. Tom tripped on the way to the fence, but just got up and kept on going. The guards were starting to take shots at him, but none of the guards could hit him, then finally Tom got hit right in the stomach, it slowed him down a little but not very much he just kept on running. As Tom approached the fence he leaped up and cut his hands, arms and legs as he crawled across the razor wire. Tom leaped off the fence and took off and was never seen again from the guards.

About a week later Tom was knocking on Atticus door, Tom had a hat on his head and he was wearing jeans with a sweatshirt. When Atticus opened the door he about fainted. Tom said all I came over here was to say thank you for all the work that you put into the court trials, I escaped jail and got shot once but know I’m leaving town and going to start a brand new life somewhere else. Then Tom gave Atticus a hug and headed out.

Atticus was the last person to see Tom Robinison.

trial blog

May 11, 2007

The trial scene in the book to kill a mockingbird was one of the most interesting parts of the book because there was actually some action. To me most of the book was boring, but this trial had a lot of action and it was one of those things where you want to keep on reading on.  Tom Robison was found guilty, for raping and beating mayella. I got this passage off page 203, I found this quote from reading nick’s blog. “I shall be brief, but I would like to us my remaining time with you to remind you that this case is not a difficult one, it requires no minute sifting of complicated facts, but it does require you to be sure beyond all reasonable doubt as to the guilt of the defendant. To begin with, this case should never have came to trial. This case is as simple as black and white.” To me I think that this passage is good in the trial scene. Atticus has a good point about the trial not being so complicated. The words that struck me the most was “this case is as simple as black and white.” Another  passage is out of chapter 23 the passage reads…”Aunt Alexandra entered the room as Atticus was saying, we don’t have anything to fear from Bob Ewell, he got it all out of his systerm that morning.” I really don’t agree on what she said I think that Bob Ewell still has all those thoughts in his system, If this story was real I think that he would be thinking thinking about twenty- four seven. If this situation was to happen today I think that it would be way different, for sure it would be all over the local news but I think that the trial would have lasted for a very long time. Because cases like that these days last for months.

chapters 16-19 blog

May 11, 2007

my way of finding passages or important lines in a book is by just reading. I usually find them by finding a key word on the pages. For a example a lot of passages that cought my eye in the book to kill a mockingbird the word was “nigger” or “negro” I see that easlly because i usually dont see those words in books. On the assignment where we had to go find four passages i for each chapter. I had to go back and find them i do that just the same way. I look for words that catch my eye. I would rather find the passages by just reading along then going back.

blog reflection

                                                                  Blogs

the very first day of school this year i came to english, never writing a blog in my life i had no idea what it was, or how they work. Shortlly after school started Mr. Sheehy had us get a account on a blog website. Then if i remember right we started to read a book called the “old man and the sea”.  And for the assignements we would write blogs about what we thought about on what we read.  I have really enjoined writing blogs this year, i would rather do it on the computer then on paper. my favorite things to blog about are when my teacher leaves the window open like you really dont have to write about something specific you just have to give your thoughts about a certain subject, and you are free to say whatever you want to. I have learned a lot of things about blogging this year, i think that it is a good tool to get information from other people, for example we are reading “to kill a mockingbird” right now and if i want a better understanding of the chaper i can go to my classmates blog page and see what they said about it. in all of my other english classes in the past we would complete assignments on paper but in this class we do most of them on the computer threw blogs, and i really enjoy it.
